"Berry Weight"
"Berry Weight"
Long story short:
Berry Weight is a soulful electro-organic-space-jazz duo, harmonizing storybook-like melodies and cinematic atmospheres. Sounds are brought to you by instrumentalists/producers/DJs : Apewok & Stab from Canada and Switzerland, occasionally to be accompanied by Danish singer-Astrid Engberg and French clarinetist-Kledsy Jy. They’re taking matters into their own hands in the wake of the supernova-like disintegration transition of the music industry as we know it.
Longer version:
Berry Weight, in its very essence, is a space capsule of melodies and sounds once found navigating the inner cortex of our minds. Sounds, much like so many a shooting star, rocketing since the very instance of their creation into the the very outskirts of space-time. Only to return altered: streaming, pulsating, vibrating and mutating in gentle accord. The various facets of the new dimensions, to which our cosmonauts Apewok and Stab give birth, carefully recorded via their on-board monitors.
A New Dimension
Our two friends saw themselves inextricably linked together over the Net, gravitating around identical vibes and making the same connexions. In the new dimension thus born, neither participant therefore need portray his past artistic compositions and certainly no need for any coaxing or any particular ‘raison-d’être’. An environment much alike the cockpit of a space-station came into existence. A special place where some creative dabbling is performed; melodies, samples and scratches are thrown around a weightless atmosphere. At that point in time a spirit took form. Berry Weight started of as a collaboration, in order to produce a piece for a television project and thus spawning their first musical piece. Centering in on this new found energy, what then came about was a flurry of tracks. Our duo diving in and belting out countless sounds.
The Final Frontier
Berry Weight productions are created between Apewok’s secret base (some say he’s been heard around Montreal) and Stab’s outpost in Neuchâtel. Between Canada and Switzerland lies an ocean across which their sounds can travel, combining views and bringing about a refreshing and unique focus. And so, across the ocean and across the Net, speed these various concoctions, colliding, fusing and thus creating all new matter.
Currently in the 21st century, whoever makes his own road truly is on the right path. Hard to put your finger on it, Berry Weight is at once here and there. The Berry Weight family consists of a multitude of beings hailing from such places as : Canada, Switzerland, Denmark, France and England.
The Remix
August 2007: Berry Weight participate in a contest, thrown by Wax Tailor,in which the participants must provide their own remix of the title song : ‘Positively Inclined’. Their remixed track places in first, therefore making it onto the ensuing release : ‘Positively Inclined – The way we lived’. The track also went on to gain positive feedback from various sources.
The Test – Bikini and Olympia
In the month of April 2008 Berry Weight give their very first live performance at the ‘Bikini Test’ in Switzerland. Blast off!! With on board Apewok, Stab, singer Astrid Engberg and on clarinet – Keldsy Jy. The group then met up with Wax Tailor; opening for his May 29th, 2008 gig at the fabled ‘Théatre Olympia’ in Paris.
Now on to the Future
Berry Weight produce a fresh and authentic blend of soulful electro-organic-space-jazz sounds. Composing, deciphering and playing with music in all its scratches, its bleeps and its bops; the beat ever present as the symphony takes off.
Long nights now stretch into day; as they launch in 2010 and go rocketing through the skies and into orbit. Keep an eye out, as they come sailing along the horizon.
