Альбом дебютировал на первом месте в хит-параде Billboard 200, став 5-м альбомом Мэрайи №1 в США; всего на американском рынке было продано около 6 миллионов копий альбома, благодаря чему "The Emancipation Of Mimi"стал самым продаваемым альбомом 2005 года. За свой десятый лонг-плей певица получила 10 номинаций на премию Grammy, из которых выиграла в трех категориях: Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (за песню We Belong Together) и Best R&B Song (за песню We Belong Together).
We Belong Together - второй сингл с альбома. Песня 14 недель возглавляла национальный американский хит-парад Billboard Hot 100, из-за чего третий сингл с альбома Shake It Off смог добраться только до 2-й строчки, что сделало Мэрайю единственной певицей в истории, чьи 2 сингла одновременно занимали 2 наивысшие позиции в американских чартах.
15 ноября 2005 года было выпущено переиздание альбома, куда включили 4 новые песни. Первый сингл Don't Forget About Us стал очередным хитом певицы достигшим первой строчки в США.
Интересным фактом является то, что песни It's Like That, We Belobg Together, Shake It Off и Get Yor Number, обеспечившие альбому оглушительный успех, были включены в него в последний момент.
